Once upon a time, I earned a Master's Degree in Literature and was a Professor of Literature and Composition. I had a wonderful time writing my Master's Thesis about Children's and Young Adult Literature, and I considered earning a Ph.D. so that I could continue to pursue the written word, including British, American, Latin American and other Global Literatures, Children's and Young Adult Literature, all types of genres and occasionally even poetry. But life takes you in unexpected directions, and so now I am working for a non-profit agency (you can read about that on my other blog, A Little Bit of Wonder). Although my job keeps me too busy to post as many book reviews as I would like, Recommended Reading is a place where I can continue to share my literary discoveries and knowledge as time allows.

Please note that I post reviews for books that I recommend reading, just like the blog title says. This means that I typically won't post a review for a book that I completely dislike. This isn't because I shy away from making negative comments, but rather because I don't want to waste your time or mine (I won't even bother to finish a book if it's not any good). For more on this, see the explanation of my Rating System.)

A Special Welcome to Participants of the SheWrites B&W Blogger Ball

Little Wonder Lauren would like to welcome fellow members of SheWrites, especially the participants of the Books & Writing Blogger Ball. Thanks to our host, Meg Waite Clayton of 1st Books: Stories of How Writers Get Started for putting on this event.

I'd love it if you would take the time to leave me a comment: tell me which of my book review(s) you enjoy the most, what types of books you review, and leave me a link to your blog, especially if you think we have some reading/writing interests in common!

  1. Just wanted to say hi from a She Writes Blog Hopper before I get into the reviews...I'm sure I'll enjoy your blog! Thanks!!

  2. Blog hopper here. I don't have much time to review books on my blog but I'll be interested to read through yours. I read spec fiction mainly. Great site.

  3. Stopping by - like your blog design and reviews. They're missing you in the academic ranks!

  4. This is the kind of blog I really enjoy reading - I like the academic slant. I will return!

  5. Hi there! Stopping by for the blog hop. You have some great reviews. Keep up the good work!

  6. Hi! Hopping in from SheWrites :) I particularly enjoyed your review of The Graveyard book. I am a lover of all things Gaiman. Neverwhere and Stardust are a couple of my favorites. Keep up the great reviews!
